Are you looking for an opportunity to support A&I Avenues' mission and especially the people we serve? The A&I Avenues Human Rights Committee is recruiting new members! This vital volunteer position requires 10-15 hours of work per month, and will put you in the position to advocate for individuals in services to ensure that they are able to engage in their communities and live fulfilling lives. Title of Position:  Human Rights Committee Member

​

Position Type:  Part-Time (15-18 hours/month - meetings are held the second Monday of every month from 4-7PM)

​

Pay Range:  Volunteer

​

Location:  Remote 

​

Responsibilities: Your role will be to advocate for A&I Avenues’ clients with rights restrictions. These restrictions can include psychotropic medication, suspension of rights (for example, no sharp objects), and/or a safety control procedure (forced restraint of client as needed). To advocate for these clients, you will review documentation that care providers submit to ensure that these restrictions are being implemented properly and only for as long as necessary. This documentation will be delivered to you once a month, and then you will have approximately one week to review it. Then, you will participate in a monthly meeting (currently being held via Zoom) to present your recommendations for each client. Training will be provided by A&I Avenues staff and other committee members. Background checks required.

Experience: Any of the following experience would be beneficial, but is not required:

  • Family member or friend of a client of Imagine! or another community centered board (CCB)

  • Professional experience with members of the intellectually disabled community (social work, case management, therapy, etc.)

  • Professional pharmacological experience (pharmacist, psychiatrist, etc.), in order to provide expertise on psychotropic medication

  • Professional or volunteer experience with a nonprofit organization of any kind
